Mamata Banerjee Govt Files FIR Against Zee News And Sudhir Chaudhary
#1
A month back, Modi government decided to impose a one day blackout on NDTV India for airing content regarding Pathankot strike that could have aided the terrorists. But quickly, the opposition, media persons, liberals of all shades, came out in the open and slammed the government, and painted it as an attack on Media’s freedom. Amid all this uproar, the government decided to withdraw the ban decision.

Sudhir Chaudhary, Senior Editor at Zee News zeenews
Now in a stark contrast to press freedom, Sudhir Chaudhary, Senior Editor at Zee News, in a Facebook post, has claimed that the Mamta Banerjee govt of West Bengal has filed an FIR (under non-bailable sections) against him along with Zee News reporter Pooja Mehta and cameraperson Tanmay Mukherjee, for covering the Dhulagarh Riots.

He Tweeted:

I must salute my colleague Pooja Mehta for her courage and guts. She is just 25&got the taste of Mamta’s
Intolerance so early in life. https://t.co/9jMDbFeTn8

West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee indiatoday
The Dhulagarh riots have largely remained uncovered by a large section of mainstream media due to their ‘selective outrage policy.’
In fact, journalists such as Rajdeep Sardesai, actually claimed that the riots were rumours.

Social media played a big role in highlighting the Dhulagarh riots.
A democratically elected Govt using police to curb the media which shows riots story against its wishes? So undemocratic!Whats the message??

Earlier, the BJP party delegate was not allowed to enter the riot torn area by the Howrah police.
The violence started during an Eid-e-Milad procession, and quickly those participating in the procession torched shops and started hurling crude bombs at homes of the majority community. A large number of families had to flee their homes. The rioting had continued for three days.

Clearly, it remains to be seen how the Editors Guild of India react on this given that a majority of top journalists have termed 1 day token ban on NDTV as reminiscent of the Emergency days. Moreover, what would the whole intolerance brigade say on this?
